What types of wood do you use?
I use high grade craft wood with very few if any defects such as knots. The most commonly available wood to me is
Aspen - A softwood that is both light in color and weight. Carves fairly well but dents and scrathces easily. It's an inexpensive wood and decent for items that don't have a lot of wear and tear or thin details.
Cherry - A hardwood with beautiful fine grain and color. Carves well and holds fine details. A somewhat pricey wood but looks great with just a clear coat finish.
Mahogany - A mediumwood with beautiful grain and color. Carves well and holds fine details. A mid-priced wood and looks great with just a clear coat finish.
Red Oak - A hardwood with course grain and reddish color. Carves well and holds fine details. A mid-priced wood.
Walnut - A hardwood with beautiful grain and a dark color. Carves well and holds fine details. A somewhat pricey wood that looks great with a clear finish.
Poplar - A mediumwood with medium grain and light color. Carves well. A somewhat inexpensive wood. Looks good with a stained or clear coat finish.
Maple - A hardwood used for hardwood floors with a nice grain and color. Carves well and holds fine details. A mid-priced wood and looks good with a clear coat finish.
If there is a particular wood you would like to use you can ask for it on the custom order form, just select other for wood type and list the wood in the description. The more exoctic woods are harder to get and more expensive, I will let you know of any troubles getting the wood in a followup email.
Do you provide finishing?
Most of the stock items such as Onlays, etc are provided unfinished so that you can apply the finish or paint to match your project. Some items such as Clocks may have a finish already applied. On the Custom Orders page you can request your Custom Order to have a finish.
Do you paint the product?
Most stock items are not provided pre-painted. Some products may be painted depending on the product. You can request your Custom Order to be painted on the Custom Orders page.
Once I pay for the product how long does it take to ship?
From the time payment is received to when it is shipped varies depending on the size and complexity of the order. Each order is carved when it is received. For a small simple order this can take 1 - 2 days. Bigger and more complex orders may take 2 - 3 weeks or anywhere in between. Estimated shipping time will be posted in the Email along with the sample and quote for Custom Orders.
Once shipped it can take 2 - 9 days to arrive based on USPS shipping, FedEx & UPS ground are about the same.
What is your return policy?
Quality of products are important to both you and I. I do not carry any stock and orders are carved as they are received. Due to the nature of custom and especially personalised orders I hope you understand that I cannot accept a return on these items. However if there is a problem with the item after you receive it, such as shipping damage, etc. please don't hesitate to contact me by E-mail at email@example.com or by phone at 1-920-907-1002 and I will do everything I can to resolve the problem which could include a replacement.
Do you have any offline stores?
I do not have any offline stores at this time. All transactions are done online. If you live in the Fond Du Lac, WI area I'm sure we can work out something to pick-up an order. I work out of my home and thus do not have a parking lot nor can I have customers around the home. But an occasional pick-up can be arranged.
Are your products hand carved?
I do not hand carve my products. I use a CNC type machine called CarveWright / Compucarve in which I take digital images that I create and load into the machine. The machine then carves the project and I clean it up and sand it. I have 20+ years in digital art, this machine allows me to take that skill and apply it to wood or plastic carvings.
Can you carve in plastic?
Yes I can carve in several types of plastic such as Lexan, Corian and Polycarbonate.
What type of lettering can you carve?
I can carve 3 styles of lettering in just about any font. (click image to enlarge)
Raster - this produces lettering that can stand out above the surface.
Outline - this carves the outline of the letter into the wood.
Centerline - this carves a V-shaped groove following the center of the letter path.
